Background:
Electricity Authority’s “Future security and resilience” project team developed a consultation paper around the following
Future operation of New Zealand’s power system
This consultation sought feedback from interested parties on the key drivers for change and the challenges and opportunities with power system operation in New Zealand over the coming decade and beyond.
New Zealand has committed to a target of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 (excluding biogenic methane). Achieving this will require:
- increased electrification of sectors of the economy, such as transport and industrial processes
- meeting increased electricity demand with renewable electricity generation.
This will have a significant effect on power system operation. EA sought submissions on their consultation paper, and any others you consider important. Submissions closed 19 April 2024
Our GEEC researcher Nirmal Nair, who co-ordinates the Power Systems Group has put in a submission on behalf of University of Auckland (available here).
Check out all other submissions from interested stakeholders in this page. (here)
